COMMUNITY CHAMPION
I’m Kate Brophy McGee, and I’m running for Maricopa County Supervisor in District 3.
Senator Brophy McGee is a third-generation Arizonan, born into a ranching family and raised in southern Arizona. She graduated from the University of Arizona and worked as a community banker lending to small businesses. Kate married her husband, Bob McGee, 38 years ago, and they have lived in their Sunnyslope neighborhood ever since. All three of their sons attended Phoenix public schools and graduated from Arizona Universities.
Prior to her election to the legislature, Senator Brophy McGee served nearly a decade on the Washington Elementary School Board, including four terms as Board President. She also served six years on the Arizona School Facilities Board, including one term as Chairman.
During her legislative tenure representing Sunnyslope, North Central Phoenix, Biltmore, Arcadia and the Town of Paradise Valley, Senator Brophy McGee led many key initiatives. She sponsored legislation establishing the Department of Child Safety as a stand-alone agency during an historic May 2014 Special Session of the legislature. She was key in the 2013 Medicaid restoration, and in 2016 she led the charge to restore KidsCare funding. In 2018, Kate sponsored the historic legislation extending Prop 301, the .06 cent sales tax dedicated to K-12 education, for 20 years. The bill passed with a supermajority vote of the legislature and ended the 2021 fiscal cliff. In her final year in the legislature Kate sponsored legislation expanding access to health insurance for small businesses and associations. She also sponsored “Jake’s Law”, ensuring that behavioral health issues would be treated the same as medical issues.
In 2021, Senator Brophy McGee was appointed to the Maricopa County Planning & Zoning Commission, representing District 3. In December 2022 she was elected to a seat on the Board of the Maricopa County Special Health Care District, the County Hospital and health system known as Valleywise Health. She continues to co-chair the Commission to Prevent Violence Against Women, a position she has held for 5 years.
Time and time again, Senator Brophy McGee relentlessly and successfully pursued outcomes on behalf of her constituents, overcoming obstacles that many judged to be insurmountable. She is a problem-solver, she listens and works well with others to develop solutions that improve the quality of life for all.
SOLVING COMPLEX PROBLEMS
I’m Kate Brophy McGee, and I’m running for Maricopa County Supervisor in District 3.
For the past 38 years my husband and I have lived in the Sunnyslope community, in the heart of Maricopa County. We’ve raised our three sons here, watched them grow up and have kids of their own.
For the past 25 years, I’ve been a public servant. From neighborhood leader to Washington Elementary School Board president, to a decade in the Arizona legislature. I now serve the county, fighting for access to healthcare across Maricopa.
I’ve served diverse neighborhoods and communities in Arizona and Maricopa County throughout my time in public service.
Here’s why I’m running for office:
Public safety – Safe communities are government’s number one responsibility.
Support and fully fund our police and first responders.
End the flood of deadly fentanyl into our communities and poisoning our youths.
Prosecute misdemeanor and felony offenses that erode the safety and quality of life in our communities.
Election integrity — The Board of Supervisors is responsible for the day of election processes. Elections must be conducted with maximum transparency and fully accommodate our many election day voters. While we cannot relitigate past elections, we can work to improve future elections and build trust.
Work with our state legislature to enact election day improvements: end long lines, finalize results quickly and ensure open lines of communication between all county officials to solve unforeseen problems.
Strengthen voter identification requirements.
Take all measures needed to strengthen the security of our elections.
Protect day of election voting.
Oppose universal, all mail-in elections.
Economic development – Maricopa County is the fastest growing county in the country.
Keep taxes low.
Continue smart planning strategies to accommodate growth that preserves individual communities' unique characteristics.
Streamline business permitting.
Actively participate in water adequacy planning at the state and federal levels.
Constituent Services – Helping citizens navigate within local governments empowers communities to maintain unique characteristics and associated quality of life.
Develop regional solutions to homelessness.
Homelessness is not a crime, but crimes committed by homeless individuals must be prosecuted. These prosecutions offer an opportunity for those suffering from addiction and/or mental illness to seek treatment.
